Locked N Loaded: Power Take Regular Season Finale

(Kannapolis, N.C. – September 7, 2015) – The West Virginia Power trumped the Kannapolis Intimidators 9-3 in the final game of the 2015 regular season on Monday afternoon at Intimidators Stadium. The Power concluded the second half with a 50-20 record and an overall record of 87-52, the best in the 11-year history in the franchise.

 

The victory for West Virginia was its 39th come-from-behind win of the season and it was highlighted by a seven-run sixth inning where the Power matched a season-high in runs for a single inning. The game was also highlighted by a season-best seven doubles from the Power offense.

 

The Power struck for a run in the first inning. Jerrick Suiter stayed red-hot in the series with an RBI single which scored Kevin Newman, who led off the inning with a single and stole second. The base hit by Suiter was his seventh of the series. Suiter finished the series by scoring nine runs and driving in five.

 

After Kannapolis scored three runs between the fourth and fifth, West Virginia’s offense exploded for the seven-run sixth. Michael Suchy led off with a double and Suiter followed with a walk. Elvis Escobar drove home Suchy with a double. After a walk to Chase Simpson loaded the bases, Tyler Filliben hit a one-out single to plate Suiter and tie the game. Newman followed with his second hit of the day, an RBI single to left that scored Escobar and gave the Power a 4-3 lead. A sac fly from Pablo Reyes made it 5-3 and Suchy crushed his second double of the inning to deep right field which cleared the bases and put the Power ahead 8-3.

 

The Power scored its final run in the ninth inning on an RBI sacrifice fly from Filliben.

 

Alex McRae (8-9) went six innings and surrendered three runs (two earned) on seven hits and earned the victory. Thad Lowry (12-8) took the loss after allowing six runs over 5.1 innings. McRae finished the season with a 4.98 ERA.

 

The Power return to Appalachian Power Park for Game One of the South Atlantic League’s Northern Division Championship Series against the Hickory Crawdads on Wednesday. General Admission tickets are free when acquired in advance while box seats are available for just $2 when purchased prior to September 9. Additionally, the first 1,000 fans will receive rally towels. The free tickets are courtesy of Suddenlink, Proud Eagle, Thomas Hospital, MVB Bank, and the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau.

 

West Virginia will toss RHP Austin Coley (16-6, 3.66) will toss for the Power against a Hickory starter to be determined. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. while pregame on Charleston’s ESPN Radio 104.5 FM and 1490, the Power website, and the TuneIn Radio App is slated for 6:45 p.m.
